About 10,000 little soldiers were enthralled with the gracious presence of former President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam ji during the launch of state-wide Lead India 2020 training programme on 9th December 2011 at GMC Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
Studying the impact and success rate of ‘Aap Badho Desh Ko Badhao’ (ABDB), a proven scientific training module designed by Lead India 2020, our Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri N. Kiran Kumar Reddy desires to impart this training to one crore students and youth of Andhra Pradesh.
In this context, state-wide Lead India 2020 training programme was launched by former people’s President Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam and Mr D. Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Civil Supplies, AP on 9th December 2011.
Dr N.B. Sudershan Acharya, Founder and National Coordinator, Lead India 2020 has presided over the function. He described the vision and mission of Lead India 2020 movement and presented a report on Foundation’s activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kalamji opined that Lead India 2020 training programme would enable development of professional skills and ethical values among one crore students and youth of Andhra Pradesh. He appreciated the great inspiring initiative of Sri N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh which will make AP a model state for providing value based education to the youth. And he opined that launching of state-wide Lead India 2020 training programme would make Andhra Pradesh to be the first state to embark on providing value based education to all the youth of the state.
He expressed that Lead India 2020 training programme would develop moral leadership traits among the youth by promoting compelling and powerful dreams or visions of human betterment and would create a disposition to do the right thing and influence others also to do right things.
He was more delighted to witness the active participation of the state in Lead India 2020, a 2nd national movement for Development. He elaborated that during the last decade, Lead India 2020 Foundation with the motto ‘Aap Badho Desh Ko Badhao’ had been facilitating conduct of training programmes in different parts of the state.
Dr Kalam reminisced his interaction with more than one million students and thousands of teachers in Lead India 2020 movement in Karim Nagar, Tirupati, Guntur, Medak and Hyderabad. Similarly, he cherished his interaction with one lakh trained students during the inauguration of Lead India 2020 Coimbatore chapter. He seemed to be in high spirits as the movement is spreading in different parts of the country.
Dr Kalam suggested that the institutions including corporates participating in Lead India 2020 movement could take a mission of creating Lead India 2020 PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) in their regions covering 20 to 30 villages having a population of 50 thousand to one lakh.
He further added that PURA envisages providing physical, electronic and knowledge connectivity leading to economic connectivity and the project could be executed in partnership with district authorities. He desired that such a programme would give hands-on experience to the students and teachers of various institutions on societal transformation missions.
The friend, philosopher and guide of ‘little citizens’ of this country, Dr Kalam interacted with about 10000 students during the occasion and inspired them to achieve their dreams, in his own much admired style. He shared his matured thoughts on the topic ‘Indomitable Spirit and the youth’. He quoted few great personalities such as Thomas Alva Edison, Wright Brothers, Alexander Graham Bell, Sir CV Raman, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Mother Teresa including master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and briefed about their noteworthy contributions to this world. While describing the criteria for achievement for youth, he elaborated the distinctive profile of the nation.
He emphasized the importance of plantation while narrating the success story of Noble Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai, founder of Green Belt Movement. Recollectig the sayings of Prof. Wangari Maathai that ‘planting of trees is the planting of ideas’, Dr Kalam suggested that every student should plant 5 saplings to achieve clean planet earth and clean energy.
The great visionary, Dr Kalam advised students to be remembered forever and ever by creating their own page in the history of the nation through the page of invention, innovation, discovery or page of creating societal change or a page of removing the poverty, fighting injustice etc. and he offered his mail address for further interaction.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr D. Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Civil Supplies felt that imparting ‘Aap Badho Desh Ko Badha’ (ABDB) training to youth to achieve a ‘nation with values’ was an extraordinary phenomenon, as many other training programmes were aiming just at wealth creation rather than holistic development of the individuals as well as the nation. He appreciated the efforts of Dr Kalam for extending his support to Lead India 2020, being a potential driving force. And he valued the cooperation of various corporate Leaders such as GE, IBM, Capital IQ, CA Technologies, ITs AP etc., in strengthening the movement further.
Mr Kiran Cherukuri, Chairman, ITs AP; Mr Madan Mohan, Executive Chairman, Capital IQ, Mr Sanjeev Jain, Business Leader, GE were also participated on the occasion and shared their gratification for the collaboration with Lead India 2020 in achieving developed India.
While speaking on the occasion, Sri K. Laxma Reddy, MLA, Medchal shared about his association with Lead India 2020 movement and depicted the impact of the training programme by involving some of the trained students.

About 10,000 students participated from 150 schools in and around Hyderabad along with principals & teachers and were instilled with tones of motivation to become ‘future leaders of the nation’, to Lead India to Lead the world by 2020!
